I don't think anyone ever said that Canon manuals are models of clarity. I have a technical background, but it took me a long time to figure out some important functions on my cameras and overcome some of the problems. And I'm still learning.

The last 30 years of my career before retirement was in the IT industry (tech support, programmer, web designer and last 10 years as project manager).  Like you, I find the Canon manual to be lacking in the clarity department.
