The EF protocol is decades proven and tuned up. Not much (nothing) to update.

And this is about Canon lenses only, let alone 3rd parties...

No issue here, they use the very same EF protocol.

Including my Sigma 50mm f1.4 and 12-24mm that don't quite work as they intended (strong underexposure with evaluative method). It didn't happen with my 5DIII, not sure if it would even with hypothetical future EF camera releases.

All in all it seems like a weird situation here with Sigma & Tamron (we all agree on this) locked out from present and future developments

There is literally nothing blocking Sigma and Tamron from developping new EF lenses and they actually do so.

Now do they? I checked on Sigma website, couldn't find much about recent EF mount lenses... and it would seem to me very weird if they continued to develop new EF lenses (what for? Don't they have enough?)

, and Canon offering either entry level or premium for most focal lengths.

Yes this is very sad for especially enthusiasts. But it is a gold gift for Sigma which offers exactly these mid range priced lenses in the quality equal or exceeding Canon's premium lineup.

Won't you agree that the average canon R user would feel a bit "meh" knowing that s/he had to plug the damn adapter for his brand new midrange lenses, that might also become not 100% working with future camera releases? And do you think that Sigma and Tamron are really planning their future line up under these circumstances?
