I was hoping it might have been a little cheaper. The Viltrox is slightly cheaper across the usual channels, and available now rather than April. Choices though, eh!
Yeah, $500 for a Samyang is tough for me. I'll wait awhile and buy the inevitable used ones off eBay or wherever for $300.
My expectation was a price of around €400 (given the higher price for the 12mm for Fuji). Though my preferred dealer in Berlin will probably give me a small discount, it is on the expensive side.
But it is a lens that I have been askign and waiting for. My main camera on the the street is a Leica Q2. In addition, I carry one or two X-E3s with the 14mmf2.8 and so far the 50mmf2. in case I need wide or longer. But: 50 is not long enough, neither is 56. The 90f2 is a beautiful lens but way too large and heavy for normal outings.
The Samyang 75f1.8 will provide me with a FF equivalent of around 110mm. I can certainly crop to 150mm and that is all I need. It is faster than I need it to be (f2.8 had been fine).
Fuji has been updating their core (flagship) lenses to the latest optical designs. Who knows, they may now be shifting focus to a short tele in the 75 or 85 mm range to complement their f2 line of lenses.
Yes, too bad fuji's 80f2.8 is a big, heavy expensive macro. Just not sure if i can see them doing a small fujicron 80f2.8. My use case is for back country skiing. I use my 16-80 at 80 all the time for shots of people skiing. Would really like something smaller. F2.8 would be just fine.
