Carnaby's Cockatoos drinking en masse, Western Australia
4

In the early morning at Yanchep National Park, north of Perth, Carnaby's Black Cockatoo come to drink in their 00's during summer when other water sources have dried out. They gather in trees nearby then descend to the water's edge, drink for several minutes then fly off to feed for the day. This spectacle is one of the few chances to see comparatively large numbers of these Endangered (species considered to facing a very high risk of extinction in the wild) birds. The suffer habitat destruction due to land clearing.

Some drink while others arrive and wait their turn.

With the wind blowing towards them when landing their beautiful wings are revealed fully.

Male left (red eye ring and black bill) and female (black eye ring) take off after drinking. Their white tail feathers are displayed fully during landing, take off and mid-air manoeuvres.
