Looking back at the history of Canon bodies, including the 1, 5, 6, and 7 series, with just a handful of exceptions, there has almost always been a Mark II. IIf memory serves me correctly (which it frequently does not!) in the 7 series, the time between initial Mark 1 release and Mark II was roughly 5 years, so I'd be (happily) surprised to see an R7II much before 2025/2026. Certainly the shortcomings of the R7 (buffer, rolling shutter, lack of battery grip, missing top lcd, etc) scream for a Mark II.

They don't really scream for a Mark II, they scream for a $4k professional body. Because adding those features would put the R7 firmly into that price bracket, like it or not. m

I have to disagree. Mostly because I don't see a $4K crop body.

That's why I think there wont be such a camera which ticks all the boxes you listed.

I don’t see that camera happening anytime soon but certainly not because the cost would be $4000 but actually for quite the opposite reason. Canon could easily produce that camera for $2500 but it would most certainly have a negative impact on sales of their ~$4000 and up FF models.

I think that is a very solid point.

People don't want a R7ii, they want a R5 with a APSC sensor in it, a junior R5. Well, if Daddy costs $3900 how much do you charge for Junior, how much do you discount for the smaller sensor? Oh, and they want that to be a stacked sensor, so add that back in.

$2500? Sure, if you chop off a bunch of R5 features. What do you want to give up?

What features exactly do you think? The R7 already has most of what the R5 offers aside from the sensor.  That’s the whole reason Canon isn’t going to offer a beefed up R7 any time soon.
