Do you see any reason why canon should release new updates to the R cameras firmwares related to EF mount, after all this time? By "support" I mostly meant that. If it works, fine. If it ain't, your problem. There are already old EF lenses that cannot benefit of the full features (like shooting at 8fps instead of 12) and never will. Let's say EF is phasing out
Do those lenses shoot at 12 or 15 fps or whatever on a 1DX III? If not, there's no regression in behavior, just new capabilities that the older lenses can't take advantage of. It might be that those old lenses simply can't actuate either the focus or diaphragm quickly enough to shoot at those rates.
Not sure but how's the diaphragm affecting the burst rate? Is it opening and closing to the given aperture all the time? And how about manual focus / shooting at max aperture? I'm telling you it won't make any difference on RF mount.
Those are possibilities. It's also possible that the lens can't communicate fast enough. Again, how fast can the lens in question shoot on a 1DX III?
Sending/receiving a bunch of bytes 12 times/sec is such a slow speed for digital communication that I wouldn't even consider that possibility. I don't know how they shoot on 1DXIII but the thing is, unlike for this dslr, they're just labeled and recognized as "not compatible with full speed". You'd see a white/blinking white burst shot icon on the viewfinder instead of green. It's not like that in ideal conditions they would or they'd be pushed to their best like an RF lens, their speed limit is actually capped. But anyway, I agree they're mostly old lenses so there might be physical reasons for that capping, and I must admit it's not much of a point regarding EF lenses phasing out.
