Do those lenses shoot at 12 or 15 fps or whatever on a 1DX III? If not, there's no regression in behavior, just new capabilities that the older lenses can't take advantage of. It might be that those old lenses simply can't actuate either the focus or diaphragm quickly enough to shoot at those rates.

Not sure but how's the diaphragm affecting the burst rate? Is it opening and closing to the given aperture all the time? And how about manual focus / shooting at max aperture? I'm telling you it won't make any difference on RF mount.

It opens between each exposure to do AF, then closes down again for the exposure.
