But whether they would is a different question. I think it would be the final straw for many people, who are already frustrated that Sigma, Tamron and others are locked out by Canon's closed system.
Sigma, Tamron and others are not locked out from Canon. They work flawlessly or R cameras via adapter.
You know perfectly well what I mean,
I do. And that is why it is strange for me why you wrote it that way which implies something which is not true.
He obviously meant RF mount (and even wrote it in his reply to you). The moment EF lenses aren't supported anymore, neither would be Sigma nor Tamron, and the adapter alone doesn't make it an "open system". Like you I don't think the EF system will be locked out any time soon if ever, but making a system more "open" only thanks to old lenses and old systems doesn't seem the way to go to me. Eventually Canon will have to lift the ban, license the AF patent or something.
Without wanting to be picky, I am not reacting on what I suppose someone meant
And this already almost sounds like an oxymoron. Pick one...
And you reacted this way to what he meant (he clarified RF mount in his reply). To me he makes perfectly sense saying that Sigma and Tamron are locked out from RF mount system. EF is not supported anymore, there likely won't be any more firmware update relative to EF lenses (last one was 1.5.x), and there's never been one related to 3rd party lenses. Some old EF 3rd party lenses already don't work well on RF whereas they did fine on EF (I have two of them). We're not expecting any RF mount sigma-tamron lens until Canon changes its mind, now you're being very picky...
