Some data to chew on, it does not answer your specific question but thought it might be helpful along the way.

I have both a EF 500mm 4 L IS and a EF 300mm 2.8 L IS II (the last version 300/2.8 Canon made). Here are the FPS I get on my Canon R6 Mark II. It has single, 5fps, H (20fps), H+ (40fps).

EF 500 4 L IS - shot at ISO 10000, 1/1000 @ f4

  • Electronic H+ 15fps
  • Electronic H 15fps
  • Mechanical H+ 7.5fps
  • Mechanical H 5fps

Interesting, the electronic is actually a step down from the original R6 which gives the full 20fps.

EF 300 2.8 L IS II - shot at ISO 5000, 1/1000 @ f2.8

  • Electronic H+ 41
  • Electronic H 21
  • Mechanical H+ 13fps
  • Mechanical H 7fps
