My basic hiking setup is now the combination of the 10-24 and the 16-80. One or other will obviously be on the camera, and the other I’d like to have available without taking off a backpack, by way of a pouch mounted securely to the waist belt of the backpack. The 10-24 (hood on) is the deciding factor, as the 16-80 with the Haoge hood that I use comes up just a little smaller. A close fit for the 10-24 will be fine for the 16-80.

I just received a Think Tank Lens Case Duo 20 that I ordered online thinking it would be just the right size, but actually it’s somewhat too large. The internal diameter is listed as 10.8cm and the hood of the 10-24 comes up at 9.8cm, which I’d wrongly thought would be a good fit. In reality it it’s held snugly at all. So I’m looking for an alternative.

The requirements are:

  • A snug fit for the 10-24 with the hood onbut of course not so snug that I can’t get it out
  • A belt loop that is secure (would prefer sewn-in at both ends to half-Velcro, but it’s not a deal breaker given the next point…)
  • At least one small loop (ideally more) that will take a carabiner, so that when I take the backpack off the pouch doesn’t go sliding off and rolling down the hill
  • Some degree of weather resistance is always a bonus

The smaller Duos are all clearly too narrow, otherwise they would be the obvious choice. There are others from Think Tank, LowePro, JJC and presumably more, but finding the Goldilocks size is obviously a challenge, especially when purchasing online.

Anyone got any good recommendations for this specific lens?
