The scary thing is ChatGPT talks like an expert but is giving out a lot of wrong information.
Yes, I find this regularly with the technical requests I've asked of it. several instances where it's provided an answer, then 2-3 reference links to URLs that are only 404s (not found), where it will eventually tell me sorry it had no supporting documentation.
It mansplains...very sure of itself when not warranted.
Yeah. I asked it where I could buy Canon BGM-BG-22 Battery trays and it gave me Amazon, B&H, and Adoroma, even telling me to search for "Canon BGM-BG-22 Battery Magazine." But you can't buy them at those stores...you can't buy them anywhere. I already knew that, but ChatGPT gave me an awesomely detailed instructions on it.
ChatGPT will certainly blow smoke up your fanny if it can. If it can't dazzle you with brilliance, it will attempt to baffle you with BS.
Me: In the television series Firefly, River Tam was adverse to a particular company. She ripped off the can labels bearing that company name, and she slashed Jayne's shirt bearing that company name. What was the name of the company?
ChaptGPT: River Tam did not hate a specific company in the Firefly series. Rather, she had a deep distrust of the Alliance, which was the government that controlled the star system where the series takes place. Therefore, there was no particular company name that she ripped off the can labels of or slashed from Jayne's shirt in the series. Instead, River's actions were meant to convey her general disdain for the Alliance and anything associated with it.
Me: In the television series Firefly, what was the Blue Sun corporation?
ChatGPT: The Blue Sun Corporation is a fictional company that appears in the Firefly television series and its associated media, such as the Serenity comic book series. It is depicted as a powerful and secretive corporation with a major presence in the Firefly universe, and is implied to have significant influence over many planets and organizations. The Blue Sun Corporation is primarily involved in the production and distribution of food and other consumer goods, and is known for its signature "Blue Sun" logo. The company's activities are often portrayed as shady and unethical, and it is suggested that it has connections to criminal organizations and government agencies. The Blue Sun Corporation serves as a recurring element in the Firefly series, and is often mentioned in passing or seen in the background of various scenes. It is also a major plot point in the Serenity comic book series, where its secrets and machinations are explored in greater detail.
Me: Weren't you incorrect when you asserted, "...there was no particular company name that she ripped off the can labels of or slashed from Jayne's shirt in the series?"
ChatGPT: You are correct, and I apologize for any confusion caused by my previous responses. In the Firefly television series, there is a specific company name that River Tam tears off the can labels of and that she also slashes from Jayne's shirt. The company's name is "Blue Sun," and it is a fictional corporation that is involved in a variety of industries, including food production and space exploration. In the episode "Safe," River is shown tearing the "Blue Sun" labels off of canned goods in a market. Later in the same episode, she slashes the "Blue Sun" logo from the shirt worn by Jayne, a member of the crew of the Serenity spaceship. These actions are intended to convey River's distrust and suspicion of the Alliance, as "Blue Sun" is often associated with the Alliance in the Firefly universe.
