I was doing a little experimenting last week. I set my power savings up like this. The LCD shuts off in 5 seconds but the viewfinder is not on because after you pull the camera away from your eye it flips to the LCD. The IS does not shut off but it does not use much power.

When I bring the camera back to my eye the EVF wakes up almost immediately. If you let the camera power down you need to press the shutter or menu to wake it up and there is a delay.

This is with my R7 but I'm sure the R5 has the same. You can keep the EVF on all of the time but it has the greatest drain on the battery. More than the LCD. Hope this helps.

I left this at the factory settings.
