I want to bump this thread as the X-H2 has been on the market for months now.
Is it confirmed that the shutter is 14-bit?
Is there any shutter shock with the mechanical shutter or I'll have to use EFCS or the e-shutter?
If I don't pan the camera, but have the camera on a tripod aimed at the subject and record an interview, I suspect rolling shutter won't be a problem?
- Yes, Raw is 14 bit.
- I've not done tests with the full mechanical shutter for shutter shock. I see no reason not to use EFCS with the EF+M setting which converts over to full mechanical at 1/2000 sec.
- If you are doing video on a tripod, not panning, and the subject is not rapidly moving, rolling shutter should not be a problem.
The X-H2 is a well performing, very comfortable and capable camera to use. I recommend it.
Somehow autocorrect changed what I had intended to use. I meant the electronic shutter. Is it confirmed to be 14-bit even in burst mode? Is it confirmed that EFCS and the electronic shutter are to be shooting at 14-bit at all times and in any scenarios?
Is there any Fuji literature that states the mechanical shutter will be used at 1/2000 in that setting?
- I don't know about ES in burst mode, I've never used it. I don't use ES in stills but EFCS Raw is 14 bit.
- Yes, the Fuji manual and the camera menu both clearly communicate that the EF+M setting has the crossover at 1/2000 sec.
Since ES is a big concern for you, like others have suggested, you may want to research the X-H2S some more. As example I recall seeing a comparison of the X-H2S's 6.2K vs the X-H2's 8K video resolution and it was very-very close. Likewise in stills having the X-H2S stacked sensor with ES enabled will eliminate all shutter shock, maximizing the 26MP sensor and lens resolution output in all circumstances.
