I think many posters are too optimistic here. Canon have consistently tried to push users to purchase more expensive gear. The SL3 infamously did away with the center firing pin on its hotshoe, forcing users to use E-TTL speedlites and flash triggers. Now the R50 has simply no more pins - you either get the expensive EL-5, or purchase an adapter.

I missed that one - I hope the reviews highlight that so that people don't find out after buying an R50 that they can't use their old flash or buy any of the lower cost ones without the inconvenience and expense of an adapter (£60 in the UK, if you can even find one).

I've also now read that the R50 has no dioptre adjustment on the viewfinder - so good luck if you're over 40 and need reading glasses, as most of us do.
