Easier said than done sometimes, particularly with rear control dials and such.  It's easy to inadvertently manipulate the rear dial with my face when I'm shooting a game and am focused on following the action.  With an EVF it's at least easy to see that something's not right, but there were times with the 7D and mkII when I shot a lot of photos with the aperture wrong (I shoot indoor sports manual exposure) and didn't find out until later.
