I use them all the time. It allows me to see what load a device might use. As an example, I might want to charge something via a port on my laptop but it might not be able to support that load, so I check first. Or another case where we were using an external media device to load software to a server, it was flakey. A few measurements and we could see it would occasionally the current drain would peak over the amount the port could supply. In the case of battery banks, you can measure cumulative drain so can easily work out how many charges or how long a device will be powered from one. They really are quite useful.
