Re: R8 vs R6 (mark 1)

This answer cannot be answered until the R8's have been out for a while and users and reviewers have had their hands on them.   It is all speculation and marketing crap right now on how good the autofocus is going to be on the R8.

I have an R6 and switched from Nikon recently and I can tell you I am damn pleased with it.  The autofocus is unbelievable for me.  A few months ago when I bought it everyone was saying  get the R7 for birds, it is better for autofocus.  Fast forward to now, many reviews out, and while the R7 is a great value it has some limitations and no, the autofocus is not better.  Nothing unusual here, Canon is not going to put way better autofocus on a camera that is 2/3rds the price of the R6.  None of the camera companies do that.

Right now I would say R6, IBIS, mechanical shutters are big benefits.  We shall see though once these are actually being used and what feedback comes in.
