No d-pad, stupid Q button, less cheap.

The lack if d-pad is not a problem for anyone who uses it to move the AF point. The joystick does it better and faster. The Q button seems to be polarizing but I don't have issues with it. To me, what's more annoying is the on-off switch, it can get easily bumped.

In return you get a much better AF speed, and better sensor in regards to readout speed and lower base ISO.

The lack of a d-pad and the problematic Q button mean a significant shortage of customizable function buttons. I don’t have any trouble moving the AF point with the d-pad at all (and it’s in a better position than the joystick - especially if you are left eye dominant and have a nose). The extra assignable buttons are a must if you want to avoid menu diving all the time.

So if you've assigned the 4 buttons on the d-pad to move the focus point, then you have no extra customizable function buttons on the X-T20.

it takes one button to engage AF, that leaves 3 extra customizable buttons.

While the 30’s AF-C is a bit snappier, the X-T20’s AF-S is more than adequate for just about anything. I’ll take the X-T20’s better high ISO performance and 3 additional buttons (4, if you disable the Q button) over the 1/3 stop lower base ISO any day. But that’s me.

How much better is the high ISO on the X-T20? Is it more than 1/3 of a stop?

Yes, especially with the electronic shutter - faster, but noisier with the 30 .
