Well, there you go. Bought another lens for a reportedly deadman walking system...

Now, ask me what lens has me with the biggest woody in a long time.
Nice !
The camera mounts that will not mount the Sigma 56mm are deadman walking systems to me !+
Oooh and those 3 control dials on the camera too If only had a joystick and eye-AF like the R10
Right ?
My M50II had good eye focus but I only used it for test shots.
For real shots I Iike the whole face to be in focus.
One eye in focus and one eye out of focus bugs me so I go for nose focus.
The eye focus features are for newbees ?
LOL - I'm no pro but not really a newbie
Eye tracking AF is transformational in the modern R series for action photography - not just faces but animals, bird in flight all sorts of subjects, intended and unintended.
YMMV
What is the lowest priced lens that can keep up with the new fast eye focus tracking ?
That you have used.
Pretty much all of my lenses listed work very well with it - (apart from the macros in terms of speed). My adapted EF 70-200 II mint used copy was ~$900 and works brilliantly. The ability to accurately acquire focus quickly and first time is also much improved, not just speed.
I'm not saying one cant track with a M camera - but the recent R's are a big step forward for the uses I specified. My M6II works great for many things and is on my long term keeper plan - but the modern R's do excel and not just with $2000+ lenses. Duade Paton gives great examples also with more affordable lenses.
Who would put a $2000 lens on a R50 ?
I'd suggest just spend a little bit more, mint-used with warranty if necessary for a R10. Plus the modern bodies even at entry level take good pictures very well, so I don't see a need for multiple R5's
Meanwhile like the OP - my M6II shines with the great 32mm f/1.4 and 11-22 which one cannot get in R!
