I think the industry as a whole has settled upon 24MP as a sweet spot for most photographers. I'm inclined to agree. Over the last few years I've owned FF cameras as high as 30, 36, 45 and 50MP. I've now got the R6II and a pair of micro 4/3 cameras that are only 16MP. I've also got a 5Ds.

The megapixels just aren't that important to me. Of my cameras, the 5Ds has gotten the fewest shutter actuations over the last few months. I still shoot with it regularly, but more so because it's my only DSLR now and I enjoy the experience. It's rare I grab it solely because I need a 50MP sensor.

Sure, if I'm going out to shoot dedicated landscapes the 5Ds is the camera I take. I have it, so why not in that case. However...knowing what I can do with the R6II and how well it holds up at large print sizes, if I didn't own the 5Ds already I probably wouldn't be lusting after more than 24 megapixels anyway.

I'm now in the camp of "don't really care about more pixels". Canon's market research has probably told them plenty of other photographers feel similar.

Agree - but There are still many photographers who think they need more and they are willing to pay more. Perhaps also a status symbol .….

Perhaps there are photographers who want more than 24mp but less than 45mp, after all a lot of photographers bought the 30.4 mp  5Dmk4 and R….

A ff 32 mp could be priced between the R6 mk2 and R5.
