Those with the R6II, I assume this will be true for the R8 as well. I know focus bracketing uses electronic shutter. Question is, when you do in camera depth compositing, and the camera uses e-shutter, does it fire through at 40 fps making hand held compositing possible? Especially if 5 frames will cover and you can do them in 1/8th of a second.

I have the R7, which tops out at 'only' 30fps. I think the focus bracketing uses the highest speed, so the R6II and R8 would use 40fps. I have done hand held focus brackets of 20-25 shots, and it seems like the shooting took less than a second (I haven't measured). The in-camera compositing, which I think debuted on the R7, aligns the shots. It does a remarkably good job. I think you'll have no problems whatsoever with a 5 shot bracket handheld.

Thanks. Very helpful.

My question was regarding a pre-road-trip ritual of a picture of the kids in the back of the van as we hit the road. The depth of field is never enough when shooting two rows in lower light and a flash isn’t good in tight quarters. We always take this picture and accept it as is.

What would be really cool? HDR depth composite in one grab for landscape. Three bracketed shots at every focal plane. Compiled in camera. 😁
