Lol, I had an EOS R for 2 years. So I'm speaking from experience when I say IS is no substitute for IBIS, which is a concern of OP.

well, as I remember you bailed from early Canon Rf to an A7III

the concern I would have about the A7III is focus acquisition in low light as it is only rated -1ev @F4 whereas the R8 has a whopping 2 and 1/3 stop better focus acquisition with -3.2 EV at F4 which will focus @F4 in full moon light

I'd be much more concerned about acquiring focus in low light with your sony versus not having IBIS when most of the Canon RF lenses have IS
