The R6 is 20mp and the R8 sensor -the same as the R6ii- is better in all aspects. Also the R8 has superior video features.

Besides IBIS I don't see why I would choose an R6 over the R8 even for the same money 🤔

20 vs 24MP doesn't really add much to actual photos. Sure it's more, but not enough to really make a difference. If 20MP is not enough, 24MP isn't going to save the day. The noise and DR of the two sensors is pretty close. To me, the sensor is basically a tie between the two.

The R6 is a step up in many areas, just a question if it matters to each photographer. Better EVF, more buttons and dials, AF joystick, dual card slots, IBIS, faster shooting with mechanical shutters, bigger battery, more weather sealing, etc.

For some shooters none of that will be a compelling reason to get the R6. If so, go with the R8. The AF and image quality will be a tad better, which are the two areas Canon was smart to prioritize on the R8!

Can't go wrong with either choice really.

Of course 4mp might not sound as much, but also it is supposed to have better DR... (I can't confirm that)

Yes, can’t go wrong with any current camera.

Plus, the readout speed of the new 24mp sensor is vastly superior than the 20mp sensor.

What is the actual readout speed of R6 II? Haven't noticed it yet anywhere.

I use a comparison of the maximum frame rate using the ES along with the severity rolling shutter effects between the two sensors.  The R8 doubles the R6 ES frame rate and the rolling shutter effects is much less with the R8 compared to the R6.  This indicates that the readout speed much quicker for the R8's sensor.  A charter I read recently showed the R6/2's sensor is the fastest or close to it for all non-BSI and/or non-stacked sensors.  When the reviews came out on the R6/2 most reviewers commented on how little rolling shutter effects there are with its sensor.

This greatly widens the usability of the electronic shutter due to far less rolling shutter effects. I think one has to add up all the improvements made to the 24mp sensor to see that it is a much better sensor than the old 20mp one.
