What am I doing wrong?

Please kindly take a look at these two photos.

The first one is a straight out of camera RAW image auto-converted and processed into JPG using Photoshop and ACR.

The second one was tweaked by me in the RAW converter by adjusting shadows and black sliders in order to bring up details from the dark especially on the clothes that resulted in making visible all details of such parts of the photo.

Is it bad metering pattern (evaluative metering was used)? Or is it something else I haven't learned so far in order to get such details during shooting as seen on the second picture?

What do you think and suggest?

Gear: Canon EOS R6 MK1 + RF 24-240mm F4-6.3 IS USM

EXIF: 1/100s, F5, 65mm, ISO800

TIA.

P.S. Second image was cropped a bit.
