I think the industry as a whole has settled upon 24MP as a sweet spot for most photographers.
It has been one of the bright spots to see the "megapixel wars" slow down. It worries me to see threads like this, because in the end, I would guess, the marketing department at Canon designs the cameras more than the engineering department does. And if the marketing guys at Canon see this, it might motivate them.
There are already cameras like the R5, why does it have to include all the other cameras too ?
Because for most use cases around 32Mp is the sweet spot. For most use cases 45Mp is overkill. The only reason I have 45Mp is I prefer to have a bit more than 20Mp.
Exactly, I agree with thunderstorm. I’d like something between, for cropping and 32mp sits in a nice spot. I have a couple of 5D mk3s at 22mp
Canon actually say that the 24mp R6mk2 offers the comparable quality of a 30.4mp sensor due to its processing algorithms. Might be enough already….I’ll have to try one out.
30.4 is exactly the same mp as the 5Dmk4…so Canon want you to consider the R6mk2 the upgrade equivalent of the 5Dmk4…but don’t want to build a new 30+ mp FF sensor….until the next generation.
I’d like a stop of crop more than 24mp, or to have the option of a 1.4 crop factor from within a denser pixel higher mp full frame.
24mp x 1.4 = 33.6
33.6mp x 1.4 =47.04
47 x 1.4 = 65.85
22, 32, 45, 63, 88
So I hope 32 and 63 mp sensors would follow in the next generations.
