The scenario you describe is exactly the same situation I found myself in last month. Before we knew about the R50. I purchased a M50 MKII camera bundle with the 2 lenses, and between last month and this month have added most of the Canon EF-M lenses and 2 of the SIgma EF-M lenses, along with the EF-EF-M adapter. Even after this announcement, I would have made the exact same choice. I’m very pleased with the M50 MKII. Size and weight are very important to me. I plan to shoot 90% still with this in various activities — travel, hiking/backpacking/cycling, along with some family/portrait. There is nothing in the R50 (+ R lenses) that I am attracted to at this point. I don’t need larger, heavier nor any of the R lenses. I already have a large number of EF-S and EF lenses already that I can use with the M50 MKII and the mount adapter.

I am also actually turned off the R system by the lack of third party lenses, and the size/weight.

As they say, you do you — but I wasn’t in this to give Canon more money for a proprietary system that’s bigger & heavier. (If I was I would have kept using my existing APS-C DSLRs.)

Good luck!

I do not need any lenses any more, but I wish Canon would release one more M body like M6mk3 or M5mk2 with Digic X. Sadly, it would never happen.
