Are you a current M system user? If so, get the M50 II and keep going with what you already know.

Are you currently using a Canon DSLR? Get the R50. The RF mount is Canon's future.

Is this your first interchangeable lens camera? If your budget is really tight, go for the M system and/or adapted DSLR lenses, but try to buy used/refurbished/closeout sale. If price is not a primary constraint, go for the R50 due to future support.

At this point, it is a very safe assumption that all M system development has ceased, and no manufacture will be releasing new autofocus lenses for the mount. If you want a long term home with future development, that place is the RF mount. Buying into the M system today is just as good/bad as buying a Canon DSLR today. They both still work fine, but both are dead ends.

Salient reply ... well stated!
