The general advice here would be that focus accuracy is better with peaking set to low – and could alleviate some of the intrusiveness maybe?

Thanks for the response, I think this is the answer for now. Hopefully Fuji decides to change it back, or better yet, to make it a setting.

In the meantime, I've done exactly as you've said, turned the peaking to low so it isn't as distracting. Fortunately, the camera AF is so good that I rarely feel the need to use my old BBF method in MF mode
