Re: Recommended lenses for a Japan trip

When I visited Japan, I had two systems - the Canon full-frame 5D Mark III with a 17-40mm f4 and a 24-105mm f4, and the X-T1 with an 18mm f2 and a 35mm f2.

The 17-40mm served the landscape job obviously, and I used it at the wide end a lot. Since you mentioned landscape, I'd bring the 10-24mm.

The 24-105mm was for general purpose, and that focal range did well for many situation, such as walking around cities, parks, and around temples. So, the 16-55mm would definitely be useful.

For night time walk-around and indoors, I used the Fuji 18 and 35mm.

I also used a small tripod for landscapes and night time cityscapes.

One lens I wished I had was the 70-200mm f/2.8 for snow monkey portraitures. I think the wider aperture with the long-ish focal range would help blur out the background nicely.

If I went again and had to use just a Fuji setup, I'd bring a 10-24mm, a 16-55mm, a 23mm f2 (in place of the 18 and 35mm), a tripod, and maybe a 90mm f2, depending on if I had something specific for it in mind.
