Not really. Canon have not been able to keep up with demand at the launch of any camera that they've released in the last 4 years.

I have not seen anything like that here since R6/R5 was released. No problem with availability of M50 mark II or R7 (or R10) and R6 Mark II has been available in stores since (at least) mid of December. And all these are more reasonable priced (although still too high).

I don't think the M50 II got here until months after the US launch.

The M50 II was first released only in Asia and USA and not in Europe, if I remember correctly. And had a separate release date in Europe (half a year later, maybe?).

Wex and Wilkinson are waiting for stock of the R6 body only, but store.canon.uk are offering it with £450 cashback bringing the price to effectively £2330 body only. Wex are out of stock of any R7s with or without lenses, Wilkinson have some combinations in stock and store.canon.uk are offering it with up to £2000 lens cashback. The R10 was more available earlier.

Price is the most profitable way of rationing their cameras until production capacity and demand equalise. (I didn't say this is equitable or right or good, just profitable.)

Hmmm. The price can also be set too high and then profitability walks out the door. And it does not explain why the R50/R8 is so much cheaper in US.

It was for the original EOS M in 2012. But people were screaming about high prices and low supply for the R5 when it was introduced. I don't know how much control Canon Japan has over retail prices worldwide. Most countries have abolished retail price maintenance. I would imagine the US price has something to do with the size of the market.

I doesn't really matter what the reason is. The prices are what they are. But ridiculous high for the newly released R gear IMO. And it seems get worse for every release now. Well, one can still vote against by not buying anything. (but that is not very fun )

As i said it's rationing by price. I could have saved £500 by buying my EOS R now instead of four years ago.  But what sort of camera could I hire for £2.50 a week?
