Why? In two words - color accuracy, especially with anything in the composition that required rendering a gray tone. Two sample images, both rendered from a Quattro .DNG:

I've noticed this too. It seems to be any tone that tends towards gray a stop or more under middle gray. I think it's because the poor color separation results in more error when everything should come out in equal portions.

Simple shots, which shouldn't be a problem, given that the light was more than adequate. Here are the crops of the shingles on the shed and gravel on the path

Both show a completely unacceptable level of green and purple false colors.

I've read the extended discussions of how people on this forum think the sensor and image processing has been improved since the Quattro.

In my experience the biggest contributor to the blotching is the noise reduction. It smooths out the green/purple noise into large annoying blotches. I use to turn off noise reduction, and use other tools, but I've found C1 is okay at smoothing out the blotches if they are too bad.
