From the reviews I've read, the f/1.8 is not it !

This is the problem with reviews and why you need to try lenses for yourself.

I find that a lot of reviewers are so far down the technical rabbit hole, and feeling like they need to say something interesting for the YouTube algorithm, that they lose all perspective about what is a good lens in practice.

I'm seeing this more and more, even from reviewers that I trust, like Christopher Frost and Dustin Abbott.

I would argue both reviewers are more subjective in their review of this lens.  Christopher likes compact wide angle primes at a moderate price, and for an RF lens the price is right, and so are the size and weight, and his "judgement" is all about being a good lens in practice imo.

Dustin Abbott doesn't like the rendering and the lack of a pop or something like that. It's technically a sharp lens, but no punch.  Imo that's subjective, but still valuable information, as long as you take into account it could be a non-problem for your personal taste.  I would argue this is about what is a lens in good practise rather than just providing results of a test chart.

I have the 35mm F1.8, and while I hate the physical focusing motor that resembles a zoom in operation,

It's a reviewers job to inform you about this, isn't it?

it's a fast, stabilized walk-around lens with excellent sharpness.

It's excellent value for money as well, which is unusual for Canon RF.

I think better value for money can be found as well, unless you desperately need 0.5 times magnification in your 35mm lens (imo this is more interesting at 50 or 85mm, but that's could be seen as a personal preference of course).

Would I shoot super fast sports action with it? Probably not. But it's just about perfect for the street!

For street fast AF can be useful as well.  Stop down for a large DOF and bump up the ISO using the focus distance scale isn't possible without a focus distance scale, but that's how street should be done.
