Move From Rebel Class DSLR to 5DMk4 or Cut to Chase and Go to RP?

I've been mentoring a young photographer that has been shooting with a 77D, which was basically a "Rebel Class" APS-C body, primarily doing landscapes. He has gotten to the point where he's ready to move up, and I can loan him either a 5DMk4 or an RP body. Lenses and adaptors aren't an issue. I'm going back and forth on whether to just have him go to the RP because mirrorless is the future, or go with the 5DMk4 to get some time with a "beefier" higher resolution DSLR before going to mirrorless. For landscape on a tripod, liveview works just fine. I was initially thinking to move him to the 5DMk4, but then I got to wondering whether that is the equivalent of thinking you should start with film before moving to digital, which I never bought into. I will say as much as I loved my 5DMk4, once I started using the R5, the 5DMk4 seemed like a cardboard wedding camera and there was no turning back. Be interested in hearing opinions on this. Thanks.
