Not to pick on the wonderful RF mount, but this picture says a thousand words...

The R50 can't be smaller than the R8. The lenses could be if native RF-S...

What this really boils down to is crop being a crop affair, or price affair. How compact an RF mount camera can be is limited by the mount itself. This is somewhat sobering as someone hoping for say an M6 II in RF... (I was)

The R50 will essentially be a cheapened version of the R10. Maybe a tiny bit smaller. Less of a grip probably. Less control points. No AF joystick.

I have a M5, and If you look at that alongside a M50, the M50 is just plain cheaper in every way. Lesser materials. Less control points. They'll take the R10 and do something similar. In short, the R50 will be the cheapest RFS camera Canon can make (with a VF). Probably one day an even lower cost RFS camera, sans VF, will come along too (ala M100/200).

So there's still no new news out yet. However I'll say this is looking strongly like...

1. R8 will have an EVF, but it may not have mechanical shutter. Not gonna rule it out, but I'm going to say probably EVF, but possibly no mech shutter.

2. R50 may not have an EVF, but it will have mechanical shutter

.

That's just based off former information and piecing together some of the odd-er rumors more recently.

The lack of rumor data so close to launch is truly a wonder. Normally 7 days out we have pictures, manuals, etc. Makes me think this may be an announcement with shipping date some time out, say 1-3 months vs the R6 Mark II which was shipping pretty quickly after announcement. You know, that one didn't have much lead data either, a lot of rumors in the distance that turned out to be largely correct. Again, hence my conclusions above as the rumors from months ago were that the R50 will be M6 II-like in form factor. This however doesn't make much sense as there is no EVF kit listed in the leaks. Unless, it's M200-like? Could be. Thinking about it, probably. I mean Canon probably wants to plug the M200 hole sooner than later and consolidate bodies (they consolidated the M6 and M5 via M6 II if you recall). If they were to launch an R200, it'd kit this way (body only, 18-45 and dual 18-45 and 55-210, exactly the kits rumored).

.

To your point though, I don't think this is gonna be an R10, I actually think the build may be between an R10 and R6 II. Probably some mix. Say that new stills video switch yes, but perhaps the R10 characteristics otherwise, for example. The above is my final guess before we get more data.
