It is not a big crop having 8K from 61Mp. Extra Mp are also needed for 8K and 4K mode EIS.

Really? 8K video is 32MP, so out goes 50% of the pixels.

How do you work that out? 8K UHD needs 7,680 wide. A full frame camera has. 3:2 aspect ratio (not the 16:9 of UHD), so that is 7,680 x 5,120 or 39.3 MP.

Generally, 8K for Canon is 8,192 x 5,464 or 44.76MP.
