Can Canon AF do real time tracking of objects (not just faces,eyes,cars,animals etc)?

Focal plane extends horizontally across the frame. If something in the "left lower quadrant" is in sharp focus, objects in the right lower quadrant will be equally in focus.

Seems to me it would be more practical, & precise to start with the composition you want, and then utilize the Manual Focus ring on the lens, and Aperture control on the camera, with the aid of magnification, if necessary to position the point of focus, and the DOF precisely where you want it.

Automation in current cameras can do marvels, but in some instances "M" wins the day.
