Thats thread is helpful, it seems the R5 will not allow to mimick the Sony Real Time Track option. Reading other answers in my thread I fear the same for the other Canon R cameras.

Really? Why? Are you saying that I wasn't reliably reporting my experience with my R7? What is the point in my going to the trouble of actually testing a feature you're asking about, and telling you what I see, if you're just going to disbelieve me, based on what some other people say about the AF behavior of different cameras? What you have been told in this thread is that the R5 doesn't seem to do what you want it to do, at least not in the way you want it to. Of course, you don't know whether the R5 users who report this have set up their cameras to get the behavior you want. Most people don't see the value in focus and recompose on inanimate objects, especially for landscapes, so they're not likely to have optimized their camera settings for that. I actually took the trouble to set up my R7 to give it the best chance to do what you wanted (I've changed the settings now, because I have no interest in shooting like that normally). it worked perfectly. And yet, you 'fear' that other R cameras (presumably the ones you originally asked about), won't do what you want, because of reports of users of a camera you didn't ask about. Well, you can lead a horse to water, as they say. I guess I won't bother answering any more of your questions, if you're just going to ignore what I say (or even imply that I'm lying). Perhaps what you should have said is "can anyone with the R5 tell me their experiences, so I can extrapolate wildly to a camera with a different AF system?"

Alastair, I do not understand why this upsets you so much? Of course I don't want to imply that you're lying!? This is an open and hopefully friendly discussion with different opinions and it will in no way replace our own experience. You have given me a hint and I will take it seriously and take a closer look at the R8 when it is on the market and hope very much that you are right and with the introduction of the R7 (and the other newer cameras) Canon has improved the AF in the direction of Real Time Tracking.
