Big print mounted on Gatorboard - attach boards to display

I have a 38" x 44" print on 290 GSM paper mounted on (I think) 1/4" Gatorboard. It's hard to say how much it weighs, but Gatorboard is foam, so it's not terribly heavy.

This fellow uses hot melt glue to attach pieces of wood to the back of his prints for hanging (and offsetting the print from the wall).

But the prints he's hanging are a lot smaller.

What are people's opinions - can I get away doing the same on a print this large?

I'd actually add a modification in case I sell this print and someone wants to remove the wood and put it in a frame: table-saw off about 1/4" of the 1" wood and attach that to the back, then screw the rest of the board into that (from underneath). In other words, I'm making the mounting boards detachable.

If not, I have another idea using angle aluminum. But this would be the best if it'll work.

TIA
