They really didn't. The 35 F1.8 is pretty good for this. I don't know what reviews you've read, but they seem to have given you a mistaken impression of the lens

For myself, it was what Dustin Abbott said.

In the part « Conclusion ». The word « underwhelmed ». Saying that it wasn’t as good as the EF 35mm f/2 IS.

That's for AF speed and maybe character, however, the RF lens is said to be a tad sharper, and it has f/1.8 in stead of f/2.0.

I've never upgraded the EF 35mm f/2.0 IS stm as it was basically my "50mm" for my 70D, and also a stabilized option for my M50. I don't like the 35mm focal length so much, and AF speed is crucial for me, so slower AF is a no go.  Optically I'm not sure if the EF lens is better. I don't think so.

For me the price would be 549 Euros. Which is maybe 200 Euros more than I paid for my EF 35mm f/2 IS, four years ago.

In my opinion the RF 35mm f/1.8 IS stm is a bit overpriced.

Dustin Abbott makes it sound only marginally better than the 50 RF, which I could have for 229 Euros.

But that's a totally different focal length.
