Canon's order is have the dual card bodies with the smaller numbers..R1-R7

Single start at R8.

I think R8 is the RII and will cost around $1500.

R9 will be RP II and will cost around $1000.

R is now available at $1400.

Both R and RP disappeared without a trace from one online store in december, I think it replaces them both.

I have the feeling that R8 is going to be a range finder.

A rangefinder as in “Leica rangefinder” or you mean “rangefinder style” as in a Fuji with the evf on the left?

Canon is way to conservative to think out of the box, so it will be a regular R7/R10 body.

X100/XPro, but I am pretty happy with Sony a6000/Fuji XE style also.

Do any of those provide a rangefinder? Canon's last rangefinder camera was the Canonet GIII introduced in 1972.

God, imagine the craze there would be for a digital Canonet QL17...would make the X100V look tame.

Agree, but they will have to replace the mercury battery, canon has never released a retro camera to my knowledge though.
