The main question: If it has fast AF (unlike the R and RP) and it's 24Mp or more, what's Canon going to do (what will be cr*ppled) to protect R6II sales.

The obvious choices would be smaller battery, lower FPS continuous, single card slot, and no IBIS.

That might not be enough.

Other considerations, no weather sealing, lower spec EVF/Screen,

that's somewhat protecting R6II sales

more plastic construction, less control options (dials, buttons, wheels),

less wheels, that will protect R6II sales very well

slower sensor readout (elec. Rolling shutter), and I'm sure the list could go on.

O yeah, Canon is pretty creative in lowering value of entry level stuff. I'm really exited what they will invent this time.

ugh

each takeaway gets uglier and uglier, no ibis being the biggest hammer

I'm looking at the R8 from the opposite POV.  It's going to be a GREAT RP successor.  For me, the RP was a no-go with only DIGIC 8.  With DIGIC X it's going to AF like the rest of the Boyzz  .

For $1500 Canon just could not throw in the kitchen sink (plus they wanted to keep selling R6 Mark II's  ).
