I hope the R8 isn't a simultaneous update of the RP and R. Canon needs something to go head to head with the likes of the A7R3 & A7IV IMO. Something in the R6' price range with more resolution. RP is fine; expectations are low at that price point. R was outdated at launch and is in most need of replacement.

I gather it is.

The question in my head is what sensor is in it? R, R6, or R6 II sensor. The other, does it have an EVF, or none (M200-like). No bet here. Think I’m sitting this one out and hoping that G1X IV rumor pans out, Canon needs to address the compact enthusiast segment. These don’t. They’re chasing the market and plugging holes here. Typical corporate executive thinking here… what’s selling, update that… what are others doing? Copy it. Very conservative moves. Consolidating the RP and R? Another conservative move. Rightly too. Market is contracting still, despite Canons recent earnings, they have to play the long game here. Boring Canon, I know.

This should be more competitive though. May be an updated version if the R sensor like the R10 was. Full readout 4K, updated AF and RAW NR are no joke, even if IBIS isn’t onboard. If you have IS in the lens, you don’t need/want IBIS anyways.
