Some things to consider, banquet halls and restaurant private rooms can vary widely in their natural light,. If its a day job and there are windows behind the guests you will have to overpower the window light. Avoid reflections as well by shooting at an angle to the glass. a fissured acoustical ceiling tile that has been exposed to nicotine for a few years may not bounce a lot of light. Same for a high ceiling anything over 10ft.  Its easy to shoot manual flash at an event because you are most always 5 or 10 feet from the subjects 5.6 or f8 more or less You will need that fstop for depth of field. Getting the favorite person sharp trumps artistry everytime. That being said the Godox round heads TTL works great, the exposure compensation is a wheel on the flash no need to use in camera compensation.(no menu diving) Learn to recognize the under or over exposure alarm tone or indicator light flashes. Backup equipment can be a lifesaver Extra batteries, flash cards, flash.  A  zoom lens is great but in dim light the wider aperture of a prime will help achieve focus. Make sure your flash autofocus assist light is turned on, same for camera.  In a dim room using flash you need to set your viewfinder and monitor to "preview exp & white balance" to Off. If you set your shutter speed to 60 or 125 sec you can get a little ambient fill from the room light and no ghosting. I alway set the camera to M so I can pick my f stop and shutter speed, iso 400. No shame in chimping just to make sure its all working. Good luck you are about to enter the "school of hard knocks".
