I'm not convinced that Canon has actively tried to phase out any of their past systems

i think by not updating the better selling flagship namely the M5 and no lenses since about 2018 canon was clearly actively encouraging folk to move to the R mount ...it worked with me.. although i did look at other systems but went for an R6..

apart from perhaps the change from FD to New FD. But they're not in a position to do a Leica or a (Ricoh) Pentax.

Moving to R didn't work with me. No R-camera can offer such a (perfect) combination of small size, small weight, portability, IQ, color rendering, good handling and affordability.

i absolutely 100% agree with you here as of now .. unfortunately for me, having a camera with no EVF is not an option ..the AF was not up to it in the M5 and when it became obvious there was to be no M5mkii i had to look elsewhere

For several years now there are regularly predictions here in this forum about the end of the M,

for the last 10 years, the demise of canon has been forecast with users leaving in droves where in reality canon has been gaining market share for almost all of the time

about the phasing out of the M, about the disadvantages of the M,

the only disadvantage for the M  as an APS-c system is no fastish standard zoom like the fuji 18-55 F2.8-4 or a 24-105 equivalent

about the advantages of FF.......... Who cares?

If you want to move to R, yes, do it. But all grumblers have to accept that here in this forum there are still a lot of users who really like M-cameras and who have a lot of fun with these small boxes and its lenses.

i really do miss the 11-22

Attention Dislexsic i mean dyslexic person... This post will have many although spell checked, spelling and grammatical errs ..its The best its going get so no need to tell me it is bad I know it is .....................................................................................................
the EOS M is not dead and wont be for a long time ....as long as you don't want a flagship camera with a VF...if that's the case it died sometime ago
My 5D IS a MK1 classic
.........................................................................................................
There is no argument for FF vs APS-c (or m43) with shallow DOF..as it's a law of physics and a very subjective personal thing if you want to make use of the shallow DOF only FF can offer
.....................................................................................................
If you wait for a camera that will  tick all your boxes ....by then you will have more boxes to tick..... so the wait continues .....David Appleton
