Does it really matter these days? Especially with a new model like the M6 II? I've had cameras for many years and never ever had a shutter failure

It does when you're trying to sell it. Many people are still using shutter count as an indicator of the age of a camera, like the odometer of a car. I do agree that shutter count is getting less relevant these days when we can use electronic shutter or do video without touching the shutter more than once.

For the M cameras I don't normally see the shutter count advertised on places like eBay, so I don't think this is much of a consideration. The main consideration is the overall condition of the camera.

I shoot my M6ii in e-shutter mode so much of the time anyway, I am not sure what shutter count reports either --- mechanical and e-shutter?  Just mechanical? So what would a shutter count even mean to a buyer.
