Hi tadziak,

I sense your frustration and I completely agree that this camera, the R5, is so advanced and so darn expensive that simple things like snow and rain interference should have been solved long ago. If Sony can do it why not Canon?

Anyways, I live in Ottawa Canada where it snows often from December through March. So many of my shooting situations are in actively falling snow, from light snow to heavily falling snow.

Soon after I got the camera in one very heavy snowfall I found the R5 almost never acquired focus - it was so frustrating. I also found that humid slightly foggy conditions negatively affected the autofocus success. This was with firmware 1.6.

However, after I installed the latest firmware 1.7, all these issues have disappeared. I shoot mostly wildlife and many times in falling snow, and now with never a problem as seen in the images below.

Also, I find that for me anyways, the fastest and most consistently successful af mode is the Zone mode, however the images below were in AF eye tracking mode on a very drab, low-contrast day.
