Canon R5 - autofocus during snowfall

Hello,

Last weekend I was taking photos at the sport event during light snowfall. Autofocus performance was very bad - no matter which case I used - the camera (R5 + 100-500 RF lens) constantly was loosing the athlete and tried to focus on snowflakes.

Same story with lens 70-200 2.8 L.  The most frustrating thing was that next to me - a colleague with Sony Alpha 1 - had zero problems. The camera would lock on the subject and ignored snowflakes, resulting in nearly 100% sharp images.

A few examples in the attachment. Is. there any way to get better results with Canon R5 or it's just a feature of this AF system?

Honestly those cameras should be so advanced, so inteligent that the least we should expect is possibility to ignore snow/rain/heat waves...
