I have never, in nearly twenty years of shooting DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, accidentally changed the mode on my dial. I had the 7D and 7DII for ten years between them, and never once engaged the lock on the dial.

The 7D didn't have a lock, unless you paid for the upgrade which I'm guessing you wouldn't have. And the 7D2 had a lock, but both this and the upgraded 7D did not require anything to be "engaged".

I'm not sure how useful your recollections actually are.

Probably about as useful as the recollections of all the complainers of the many times they accidentally changed the mode on cameras without a lock.

Maybe it comes down to the type of bag you use, or perhaps how you store the camera in the bag? It's very puzzling to me. I have to make a conscious effort to change the dial on my R7. An accidental brush of the fingers, my fingers at least, isn't enough to change the position.

It's true that the position of the dial on the R7 is less exposed and therefore probably less prone to accidental use than the 7D, 7D2, 90D and predecessors which had the dial on the left shoulder. But providing a lock button would have cost literally pennies and would give additional security.

Sure, but if we are complaining about something as trivial as this, that probably means there’s not a lot wrong with the R7. It seems to be human nature (at least of many humans on this forum) to complain about stuff. So yes, you’re right, Canon should have put a lock on the mode dial. Grrrr!

I am thinking the awesome Amazon AI is looking at this stuff and compiling it into market research data analysis that it can sell ?
