I think I only use the top screen on my 6D to check battery status -  unless it is on a tripod where I use it for all the camera settings.   On any body with an articulated rear screen (DSLR or MILC) I use live view and have the rear screen pulled out where I can see it (sun glare permitting).  So no real need for a top screen on any modern Canon. I always bring knee pads with my tripod but don’t use them much if I have a movable rear screen.
I happened to see a review of the R10 yesterday where the lack of a top screen was considered a negative mainly because of the impact of using the back screen on battery life.  I guess that is a valid point when a camera doesn’t have much battery capacity to spare. Ironically, the premium bodies that have the top screen have better/bigger batteries.
