I thought I would miss it but turns out I don’t in the slightest. The top LCD is a bit of a throwback to the days before a rear screen and a plethora of information in the viewfinder. It is so easy to access that the top screen has for me become redundant.

I rarely look at the top LCD on my R5, but I suspect that, for Canon, it's a prerequisite for having that type of mode dial. And I very much like the mode dial, I can remove modes I don't want and like others have said, assign the M.Fn. button to cycle between C1/C2/C3.

I would have thought that could be done laced on the rear screen instead. Having the top screen is a bonus for the more expensive bodies but the lack of a tip screen shouldn’t rule out the mode dial feature.

I agree with you, but I don't know if Canon agree :). It feels like a very Canon thing to do, restrict the top LCD to 'better' bodies and then tie something only slightly related to that feature.

Personally, I would love to have the R5 style mode dial on all future bodies, especially on EVF-less M6II style bodies.
